Planos preventivos de saúde animal
| Summary: | Pet Health Plans represent a deviation from the business model practiced by Veterinary Medical Centers until less than a decade ago. Their effectiveness and success, both from an economic and health point of view, is evident in the foreign market. National level wise, although on a smaller scale, their availability has been gaining ground in recent years. This study strives to evaluate if there’s a general interest on the Portuguese part towards Preventive Healthcare Plans and which factors motivate them to sign up. Therefore, a survey was designed and shared, exclusively through social networks, which was made available between 10/02/2018 and 25/04/2018, amassing a total of 507 responses. Very few of the surveyed showed no interest in this service (5.7%, n=29), their motivations being mainly the belief that they would spend more money than they currently spend and the disbelief that the benefits to their pets health outweigh the costs. On the other hand, the motivations that seem to be more relevant to the interested parties seem to be related with the medical, health and prevention component more so than with monetary aspects. It is therefore suggested that in general there’s an interest in this service in Portugal and that maybe a venture on the part of the Veterinary Medical Centers at a national level in this business model may be timely. |
