Summary:This study aims to characterize talent in female youth basketball. We sought to compare the characteristics of training, maturation, morphology and functional performance of young players as a function of the level of performance expressed in real play, and finally to find out the best predictors of the level of performance for youth women's basketball at the level age considered. A total of 177 girls, aged between 15 and 16 years old, were assessed according to a protocol for collecting maturational, anthropometric and functional measurements. These athletes were in a concentrated environment, in the dispute of the “Festa do Basquetebol” competition, in which their efficiency levels were measured through the performance recorded during the games played in this tournament. The results showed a positive correlation between the frequency and the duration of the training, menarche age and palm length, and the performance at these ages. The qualities dependent on the manifestation of rapid strength, such as the power of the upper limbs, vertical impulsion, agility and speed were, from a functional point of view, the determining qualities of the high performance level. The palm length and the T-test were considered the variables that better predict the athletes' performance.
