Organização e implementação de uma Rede global de informação para o Arquivo Técnico da Direcção de Navios, da Base Naval de Lisboa

Summary:The great challenge of the current information society is to manage new approaches to production, organization, movement and retrieval of information, with use of Information and Communication Technologies. Based on this assumption, this study is developed from the need of naval units have to access immediately to updated technical information, in digital format, to solve problems on board and to support decision-making. The increasing number of requests for access to documents in digital format, quickly proved to be essential to implement a methodology that would allow its readily and timely accessible, unrestricted spatiotemporal, and be proactive in updating the information content. In this sense, we proceeded to dematerialisation of technical documents by scanning using optical character recognition, attach metadata, classification and archiving of digital documents, to for future adoption of the international standard for digital files in long term: Portable Document Format/Archiving (PDF/A). The dematerialisation of technical documents requires the identification of circuits and information flows, the documentary typology involved and the responsibilities associated with each activity, in order to simplify and streamline procedures and consequently readjust these information flows, essential to implement management systems that promote interoperability and information exchange. Thus, with this study we identify and make use of existing systems and applications in navy context, to intended to make the organization and implementation of a global information network for Technical Archive of Directorate of Ships, Naval Base of Lisbon. It is considered that this work may contribute to the continuity of existing reflection on the dematerialisation of files and more sustained release of information that they hold, through a relational architecture of the management systems of digital documents.
