Madame Bovary 24 : l’héroïne flaubertienne au cinéma selon Sophie Barthes
| Summary: | The purpose of this article is to study the feature film Madame Bovary (2014) by Franco-American filmmaker Sophie Barthes, and to identify how it dialogues with the Flaubertian novel, while respecting its spirit and the psychology of the characters, but in a modern work whose target would rather be a younger audience, after other well-known screen adaptations. This shows Emma Bovary has earned her place among the most famous literary types, even giving her name to a moral behaviour, « bovarism », the romantic dissatisfaction which prevents from living in the real world. She is indeed a fascinating character that the cinema has helped to make even more universal. |
