Zona Velha do Funchal. Proposta de Reabilitação do Edificado
| Resumo: | The rehabilitation theme of built's historical center and urban revitalization, recurrently arises today in actual architecture as a focal point of acting in cities for two main reasons: the need to preserve the cities identity that are increasingly degraded and unpopulated, and also for thwarting the tendency of Portuguese constructing sector in relation to Europe, when mentioning considerably inferior numbers of buildings's rehabilitation comparatively to the construction root. Consequently, and for the topic relevance, Zona Velha, is a matter that is already rated as architectural set of regional value, in order to analyze the interventions in the defined area. Through, the study of Funchal's urban aspects and Madeira's folk architecture is intended to identify the materials, the construction system and housing typologies that characterize this historical core and contribute to the city's identity. This analysis is essential to point out the strategic points of urban interventions that have achieved, or not, the proposed objectives for addressing the problems initially identified. For this, the study relies on the evolution of the concepts and theories for heritage and historic center, both in the international experience as the national experience, in order to objectify new intervention strategies for buildings and public space based on examples of intervention strategies of other Portuguese historical centers. |
