| Summary: | In the last year we are facing countless wild fires with increasingly dimensions. Due the climate changes we are suffering the extreme meteorological events more frequently, with dimensions we had never seen before in Portugal. In response to all these situations it is possible to watch bigger operation areas according to the number of operational people and involved civil protection agents. In addition, the Portuguese’s civil protection system has been disclosing weaknesses in the communication technologies used in the response to big civil protection operations. In order to fit the need this work aims to create a mobile application to support the response to civil protection operations. To check the feasibility of this proposal a set of firefighters answer to an online inquiry, and its result are analyzed in order to understand the needs from operational people. The work includes the application prototype development too. This prototype has some features for gathering and sending information related to the events. Afterwards, the prototype is tested by firefighter, who are called to answer another survey, in order evaluate its usability and applicability to real scenarios. Prototype assessment about the user's satisfaction regarding to usability and potentiality was good. Comparing to another IT solutions from various organizations, which are exclusively targeted to the command and control level, this prototype is targeted to the maneuver too (i.e. the firefighters). It also allows time saving and workload reduction to telecom operators, in case of being implemented any integration with the existing systems. Therefore, it's urgent to develop a global solution being able of giving uniform response across all the country and which integrates with existing systems from Autoridade Nacional de Emergência e Proteção Civil. |
