A envolvente do Convento de Cristo em Tomar: Uma leitura sobre o lugar no tempo para uma proposta de regeneração urbana
| Summary: | The Convent of Christ in Tomar, classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a monument of high architectural and spatial quality, revealing itself as an important icon of theHistory of Portugal and the History of Portuguese Architecture. Its surrounding has animportant connotation in its History and, above all, in its characterization and image.Thus, this work has the objective of creating an opportunity for a complete, wideand comprehensive reading of the part comprised between the three surrounding hillsof the Convent of Christ. For this, it will be crutial the definition of a landscape unit,due to a process of observation of the relation between this monument and its near anddistant surroundings. This will be analyzed according to its transformations over time- from the beginnings of its occupation to the present - and its relationship with thismonument - according to different approaches to the physical and visual continuityestablished between the interiors of the Convent and its landscape unit. Its purpose isuseful for building a state of art about the subject, for solving problems and to pointpossible solutions. |
