Vamos lavar as mãos. Um estudo sobre a aquisição de hábitos de higiene em creche
| Summary: | This study was part of the daycare internship and focused on the acquisition of hygiene habits in this context. Considering that daycare children are in the process of acquiring hygienic habits, in order to facilitate this, it is necessary to make it rewarding and enjoyable. However, daycare children still depend on the adult to satisfy their hygiene needs, so, the role of the educator is to promote a better acquirement of hygiene habits. Therefore, the research question was defined as “What is the impact of practical activities on the acquisition of hygiene habits in daycare?”. This research focused on hand hygiene, as it is the simplest and most effective measure to prevent infections and disease contagion, since young children touch anything that is within their reach, it is a measure of health promotion that should be explored also in the daycare context. The research was based on an intervention, in which handwashing activities were carried out with a group of children between one and two years of age, in order to verify if these activities would have any impact on children's acquisition of hygiene habits. Thus, this is an action research, whose participants were eleven children between the ages of twelve and twenty-three months, as well as the trainee, the daycare educator and eight parents. The data was collected through an interview with the daycare educator, to understand how she approached the hygiene habits with the group, field notes, elaborated during the intervention, and a questionnaire survey to the parents, to understand the evolution of the children after the activities. After analyzing the data, it was possible to observe some results. Most children, although not yet autonomous in handwashing, sometimes mimic the adult in handwashing or ask for help in carrying it out. The impact of the activities was superior in children from a year and a half, since they asked to wash their hands when they observed visible dirt. |
