La bruyere contre l’equivoque : «Parlons clairement, je vous prie, et sans équivoque» :les Caractères, une oeuvre de «désambiguïsation»?

Bibliographic Details
Summary:La Bruyère’s aim in “Les Caractères” is to analyze and to denounce the equivocity of the striking signs of the world, such as discourses, clothes…These signs are raised up by a society based on appearance, considered as real essence and not as a hymn to creation as it was in the baroque Times, itself neglecting the onto-theological univocity given by God to his creatures. First, we will demonstrate how the moralist defines univocity bases, then, we will explain his fight against equivocity and, finally, we will show his ambiguous uses of equivocity in his treaty: ‘the equivocities of equivocity”.
