Educação Ambiental para a Sustentabilidade: uma intervenção no 1º ciclo do Ensino Básico

Summary:ABSTRACT The environment arouses curiosity and interest in the youngest from an early age, who receive information about the environment through the five senses, questioning themselves about what they observe. Combining this natural curiosity with the urgency to contribute evermore to a sustainable planet and transmit values related to sustainable development, we find the need to bring awareness to environmental issues and promote Environmental Education for Sustainability in all fields of content, particularly in the area of study of the environment. This study set out to acknowledge the understanding that a group of students had about the Environment and the influence that mankind has on it. The study was developed with a class of students in the 2nd grade of a Public School located in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. We adopted a qualitative and interpretative approach to the study, having collected data through simple observation, using a diary, having informal interviews with the students, collecting documents, and using projective inspiration tasks. Regarding to the results, it was evident the motivation and interest of the students about the subject. Concerning the knowledge developed, it was found that they deepened their knowledge associated to the ecosystem notion and to the influence of human action on the environment.
