Percepções dos pais e professores face à problemática da criança com perturbação do espectro autista:A criação de uma unidade de ensino estruturado

Bibliographic Details
Summary:This study was conducted in the municipalities of Caldas da Rainha and Bombarral at Primary Schools and Nursery Schools where children with Autism Spectrum Disorders were found, some of whom were integrated in the general public system of children’s education and others in private educational schools. In this study, 113 Teachers/Nursery School Teachers and 15 countries participated. To fulfill our aim, we proceeded with a study of a quantitive nature using two different questionnaires as a data collecting tool: one for the parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and another for Teachers/Nursery School Teachers. Essentially, the intention was to characterize the opinions and attitudes of teachers and parents about this problematic situation and for the need or not, of the creation of a Structured Teaching Unit as support to this study. With this study, more knowledge was acquired about the vision that Teachers/Nursery School Teachers and Parents have about the problematic situation of Autism Spectrum Disorders, the ways they cooperate between each other, permitting professionals to reflect about their strategies and practices of cooperation, not forgetting that the family has needs, a culture of their own that must be respected, besides having expressed rights in the current Legislation of Portugal. Most tended to recognize that the Structured Teaching Unit is in fact a full response to students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
