A importância das histórias na aprendizagem da matemática: Um estudo com crianças da creche

Resumo:Stories shape various benefits to the child's overall development. So it is crucial that children have contact with the stories as early as possible. Using stories as a learning tool for mathematics in day care, can allow us to explore mathematical concepts in a more appealing way, contributing to a more meaningful learning and developing (mathematical) abilities and competencies. The present work was developed during the pre-service training practice of the Master in Qualification in Preschool Education and it arose from the reflection of a future professional education, watching the children educator’s low propagation and lack of exploring of stories as a tool to learn mathematics, namely in the development of (mathematical) abilities and competencies. The aim of this study is to understand the importance of stories in the learning process and its contributions to the mathematics learning. We assumed an interpretative paradigm and developed an action-research project in the daycare. The participants are composed by a group between the ages of 1 and 3, the educator/researcher and the cooperating educator. Data was collected through the observation, researcher’s diary, informal conversations and documents. The results showed that the storytelling contributed to stimulate the liking and interest in stories and to motivate children, which allowed them to become actively involved in the development of (mathematical) activities. The use of stories as a tool in the learning of mathematics contributed to making the activities carried out at this level, more appealing and facilitating to the learning process.
