Criação de um Microtesauro na área da Dança

Bibliographic Details
Summary:This research aims to build a Microthesaurus in the Area of Dance. In the absence of a specialized thesaurus in the dance field, nationally and internationally, and to give an answer to the needs of a more effective recovery of information in documentary units specializing in dance, in this case, in particular, in the Centro de Informação e Documentação (CDI) of the Escola Superior de Dança (ESD), it was proceeded the construction of this Microthesaurus, taking into account the national and international standards for doing so. During the duties at the CDI, it was identified the need for an adequate documentary language tool that could allow, in bibliographic searches, retrieving documents by subject in the database. A bibliographic search available only by title and by author proved to be insufficient and the inability to search documents by subjects has been translated into a growing need for the users and for the service itself. The methodology for the construction of this Microthesaurus was based on a list of indexing terms built from the analysis of a sample of 125 monographs and on the consulting of various information sources (monographs and reference works, documentary languages and informal interviews to ESD teachers). The analysis, quantification and qualification of the terms, which constitute this Microthesaurus, had the monitoring, evaluation and continuous adaptation by some of ESD teachers, researchers and specialists in dance. The dance, as an object of theoretical exploration, proved to be a discipline that embraces several areas of knowledge, which were arranged into classes, corresponding to eight areas of knowledge related to dance, considering the CDI documents collection and the curriculum units taught in the ESD undergraduate and master's courses. The Microthesaurus in the Area of Dance, which results from our research work, is constituted by descriptors, non-descriptors and their hierarchical, associative and equivalence relations that, due to its dimension, can be found at the end of this work, as an Appendix. The same results from an individual building process, initially built manually, and, subsequently implemented in a documental software, CDS/ISIS for Windows, which came to streamline the creation of the Microthesaurus structure. This Microthesaurus in the Area of Dance, in Portuguese language, is an important contribution to the Libraries and Documentation Cen ters that have specific documentation in this area, since it will fill a gap in this field of knowledge.
