O projecto como lugar de encontro: cruzamentos, intersecções, confluências, divergências

    Publicação
Starting from the developing present circumstance we aim to question the project process in the architecture of contemporary times, a situation that stimulates crossings, intersections, confluences and multiple simultaneous divergences. It is interesting to rethink architecture as an experience, which is dependent and conditioned on its circumstance, as opposed to a final and static idea of an architectural object. The following investigation focuses on ways to think, produce and occupy space, always having in consideration the study of the relation between all members that participate in the inhabiting of these spaces and permanently questioning what is the role each one of them occupy in the development of this ongoing process. As these questions are inherently connected to the exercise of the project and its development progress, it seems redundant to attempt answers in the void. It is required to dive into the process of the project to try and understand it better. Or even, to be able to question it better and carefully dissect each vertebra of its skeleton. Coincidental to the start of this thesis arises an opportunity to act, that helps articulate the whole work by complementing it to the shape of this make-project, essential to its development. A request surges - an order - for the drawing of a house to be built. This project is transformed into a central thread of the thesis. The premises concerning the circumstance where it is inserted are fundamental elements that attach the thesis into the project in an almost umbilical way. On the other hand, the project is also a pretext to encourage other study initiatives that, even though emerge from it, find other liberating spaces throughout the thesis. Personifying an ambiguous condition between the academy and the profession, we search the (re)understanding of an idea of architecture, necessarily intersected by the unrolling of the practical exercise we have in our hands. This real and concrete circumstance is disturbed by some assumptions and scenarios that lightly distort it and also locate it in this position between the real and the academic. The work aims to find some clarity in the dense and nebulous process that involves the act of projecting. It is composed as an object that keeps a documental register and organises, simultaneously, the documented process, without wanting to become a register too detailed but that draws on the reflections raised in its development. Thus, the project is serving what we are interested in enhancing and is at the same time, a facilitator.

Molecular Mechanism Operating in Animal Models of Neurogenic Detrusor Overactivity: A Systematic Review Focusing on Bladder Dysfunction of Neurogenic Origin

    Publicação
Neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) is a severe lower urinary tract disorder, characterized by urinary urgency, retention, and incontinence, as a result of a neurologic lesion that results in damage in neuronal pathways controlling micturition. The purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive framework of the currently used animal models for the investigation of this disorder, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of NDO. An electronic search was performed with PubMed and Scopus for literature describing animal models of NDO used in the last 10 years. The search retrieved 648 articles, of which reviews and non-original articles were excluded. After careful selection, 51 studies were included for analysis. Spinal cord injury (SCI) was the most frequently used model to study NDO, followed by animal models of neurodegenerative disorders, meningomyelocele, and stroke. Rats were the most commonly used animal, particularly females. Most studies evaluated bladder function through urodynamic methods, with awake cystometry being particularly preferred. Several molecular mechanisms have been identified, including changes in inflammatory processes, regulation of cell survival, and neuronal receptors. In the NDO bladder, inflammatory markers, apoptosis-related factors, and ischemia- and fibrosis-related molecules were found to be upregulated. Purinergic, cholinergic, and adrenergic receptors were downregulated, as most neuronal markers. In neuronal tissue, neurotrophic factors, apoptosis-related factors, and ischemia-associated molecules are increased, as well as markers of microglial and astrocytes at lesion sites. Animal models of NDO have been crucial for understanding the pathophysiology of lower urinary tract (LUT) dysfunction. Despite the heterogeneity of animal models for NDO onset, most studies rely on traumatic SCI models rather than other NDO driven pathologies, which may result in some issues when translating pre-clinical observations to clinical settings other than SCI.

Estágio Profissional: O primeiro passo na jornada de uma futura professora de Educação Física

    Publicação
This report was elaborated following the Professional Internship inserted in the 2nd year of the Master's of teaching and Teacher's education program in physical education from the Universidade do Porto. This is a fundamental milestone in the construction of professional identity as it enables reflection and critical analysis of various social representations historically constructed and practiced in the profession (Guimarães, 2004). Therefore, this report aims to describe and reflect on the strategies used and experiences lived throughout this year, as well as my development and evolution as a teacher. I consider myself a teacher who is based on constructivist theories and, therefore, I tried to make my practice reflect this. In other words, I tried to make students face problems in order to solve them and, making them responsible for their learning, making them an active elements in the teaching-learning process. The EP played out in a very positive way, my relationship with the students and with the other teachers was very good which facilitated the whole process. In addition, I was not confronted with problems of indiscipline or lack of motivation, on the contrary, the students were very motivated and committed, which allowed me to concentrate and be more concerned with aspects such as the preparation and teaching of classes. This document was divided into several chapters, starting with the Introduction, going through Personal and Institutional Framework, Organization and Management of Teaching/Learning and Participation in School and Relationship with the Community, ending in Conclusions and Future Perspectives. Also noteworthy is Project of Professional Development, related to the use and evolution of lesson contexts in a Volleyball UD.
