Nove Cidades Utópicas. Ensaio para um Atlas do Futuro

    Publication
All the ideas that take shape in our daily lives, from the simple objects we use to the systems we live in, were, at the moment they were conceived - utopias. We make use of these forms on a daily basis, giving them little thought beyond the purpose they serve at the moment they are useful, or worse, never thinking about them at all. This dissertation is dedicated to exploring an atlas of the future, in which nine utopian cities are presented, with Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities", "Palomar" and "Six memos for the next millennium", as well as nine works of art from different authors as the main references. Each city is determined by a theme and a chosen location. The themes emerge from human concerns replicated in architecture: the sacred, the reflection, the sublime, the density, the reverse, the absurd, the distance, the intangible and the end. All the cities are presented to the reader in written and visual form, both of which can be separated into the perspective of the author, the architect, and that of the protagonist, the generic individual, whose absence would nullify the work. The architect dedicates himself to looking for utopias in his drawings, aware that they can only be utopias as an unrealized image; the protagonist, on the other hand, experiences the concrete cities and gives himself only to what the immediate instigates him, observing that given the right circumstances, in small moments the materialized utopia reveals itself to be infinitely more multiple and concrete than it ever was in the conception, as physical and close as the air, the shadow, the silence and the moon, at the end only a specter, ephemeral but felt.

Em Busca de Identidade após Descolonização. Um Olhar Sobre a Casa Angolana

    Publication
The different political contexts in Angola contributed to the construction of a new dynamic and diverse identity - the Angolan identity, marked by the different groups that compose it. This identity is also reflected in the Angolan way of living. As Angola is a multi-ethnic and multicultural country, the dissertation presents considerations and surveys that reflect the diversity of perceptions around the theme. It also presents five case studies of singlefamily housing that appropriated buildings from the colonial period and the current ones whether private or government housing. These case studies reveal that Angolans have a particular way of using the rooms and duplicating certain rooms on the outside, for example, one kitchen indoors and one outdoors. The interesting thing is that one does not cancel the other, they are independent but complement each other. This implies that it is necessary to rethink the Angolan house and design it in ways that respond to the real needs of those who live in it. In short, the Angolan experience and way of living is particular, and must be taken into consideration in future constructions.
